Women's Soccer Falls Short in Matchup with #19 Carnegie Mellon (Pa.)

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team fell to 19th-ranked Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) University by a final score of 3-1 on the field of George Finnie Stadium.=

BW (0-6-2) got in the scoring column for the first time since September 5 at Denison, when Sophomore Defender Sage Perry (Elmore/Woodmore) connected on a shot that was high and over the Carnegie Mellon (7-1-1) goalkeeper at the 30-minute mark. After being a tie game at the half, BW surrendered two second-half goals to go down in the contest.


BW Leaders 

  • Perry scored the only goal for the Brown and Gold which was unassisted

  • Perry, along with junior Academic All-OAC members, midfielder Mia Fourtounis (Akron/Revere) and defender Ella James (Loveland) led the way with one shot on goal

  • Olivia Baker (Weirton, W. Va./Weir) also added a shot taken just before the first half ended to lead with Perry and Fourtounis

  • Junior Academic All-OAC Goalkeeper Kelly Carver (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) was the goalkeeper for BW and she recorded a career-high 10 saves, beating her previous best at eight protections done on two different occasions: vs Kenyon on August 31 and at Ohio Wesleyan, September 9

Carnegie Mellon Leaders 

  • Olivia Hoffman, Alma Zhong and Audrey Bianco all scored one goal to lead the Tartan offense; all were unassisted

  • Bianco, Haley Peek, Saveria Ulizzi, and Margherita Memolia all led the team by taking three shots

  • Ulizzi was the team leader with two shots on the target

  • CMU played two goalkeepers: junior Kate Bargan started the game and she was in action for 42 minutes, making two saves and freshman Delaney Martin played the other 47 minutes and allowed a combined one goal on the day

First Half (Tied 1-1)

  • 27:21 - Hoffman scored the first goal of the game on a penalty kick to help CMU play from in front

  • 30:22 - Perry connected to tie the score at one and it remained this way into the halfway break

Second Half (CMU 3-1)

  • 50:06 – Bianco scored 50 minutes into the game to give the Tartans a 2-1 advantage with a little under 40 minutes to go 

  • 89:54 – Zhong scored with six seconds to play in the game to put it out of hand

Up Next 

The Yellow Jackets are back in action next Sunday, September 28 where they will host Adrian (Mich.) College for seniors' day at George Finnie Stadium. The game is scheduled to kick off at 4:30 pm and it will be streaming on FloCollege.
