Men's Soccer Tops Olivet (Mich.) on Seniors' Night

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team snapped a four-game losing streak on the field of George Finnie Stadium against the University of Olivet (Mich.) by a score of 2-0, their second shutout of 2025.

Prior to the game, BW honored senior players Matt Aspinall (Twinsburg), Connor Carroll (Twinsburg/Lawrence), Michael Giganti (Uniontown/Lake), Mike Kane (Kent/Hudson), Ben McCauley (Tallmadge), Owen Reyes (North Olmsted), Mathew Skladany (Cleveland/St. Edward), Mason Starkey (Johnstown/Johnstown-Monroe), Brendan Waters (Lakewood/St. Edward), Max Yakym (Parma/Normandy), and student assistant coaches Aidan O'Neill (Middleburg Heights/Berea-Midpark) and Bryce Venrick (Denver, Colo./Regis Jesuit) in their second home victory of 2025.

Reyes made his mark in the game, scoring two goals to become the second BW player, alongside Skladany, to have a multi-goal effort this season, and it's also his first such occurrence wearing the Brown and Gold.
 

BW Leaders (4-6-1)

  • Reyes' two goals led the way for both teams, which were both scored from the middle left side of the net

  • Sophomore Robbie Rochford (Fairlawn/Copley), freshman Thomas Getz (Hamburg, N.Y.), and Skladany each led the way by dishing out an assist to Reyes' goals

  • Reyes also led the way with four shots taken with three of them being on the target

  • Seth Warrick (Avon) was in front of the net for 85 minutes and he saved three Olivet shots

  • BW led the shots taken battle, 15-9

  • The Yellow Jackets were victorious in shots on goal, 7-3

Olivet Leaders (2-3-1)

  • Seniors Carter Scheel, Aidan Reynolds and freshman Marcel Jackson led the way by taking two shots for the Comets

  • Senior Kyle Buchanan, sophomore Tyler Kendrick, andl Jackson all led the way with one shot on goal for Olivet

  • Netminder Nicholas Van Port Fleet allowed two goals and stopped five shots from going into the net 

First Half (BW 2-0)

  • 14:32 - Reyes connected middle left to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead, which was assisted by Getz and Skladany 

  • 23:41 - Reyes scored his second goal of the game with Getz coming in on the assist to give BW a 2-0 lead at the break

Second Half (BW 2-0)

  • Neither team scored in the second half. The shots taken battle was much closer with Olivet getting the edge, 7-6 in the latter 45 minutes of a game that was scoreless for the last 59 minutes of play
