Box Score 4 BLUFFTON, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's volleyball team concluded a four-match weekend at the Sommer Center Spiketacular, hosted by Bluffton University, with a 3-1 record. The three wins were won in straight set sweeps, and the loss came in five sets.
Baldwin Wallace (9-9) had a hot start to the weekend by beating The University of Olivet (Mich.) Comets (25-15, 25-15, 25-19) and the Adrian College (Mich.) Bulldogs (25-12, 25-15, 25-12) in straight sets. Their winning streak extended to 11 consecutive sets before dropping a set 23-25 to Hanover College (Ind.) on Saturday afternoon. The Jackets subsequently fell to Hanover in a five-set match after winning the first two sets (25-21, 25-19, 23-25, 13-25, 12-15). The match against Bluffton started off with BW getting into a 0-7 deficit. However, Coach
Kate Latkovic's group gained their first lead at 17-16 and never looked back as they proceeded to sweep the Beavers in straight sets (25-21, 25-20, 25-20).
vs. Olivet (Mich.) (4-12)
- Junior right-side hitter Lexi Smith (Tiffin / Columbian) led the Yellow Jackets in kills with 13 while posting a .600 hitting percentage.
- No. 7 Gabby Schlecht (Naperville, Ill. / North) also earned seven kills to help the Jackets win in straight sets.
- Senior setter Katarina Blazetic (DeLand, Fla.) had four service aces to lead the squad. This was only once ace shy of her career match best.
- Junior middle hitter Elysia Zehner (Ashland) made a career match best five blocks (including three solo blocks) to lead the team in total blocks.
vs. Adrian (Mich.) (1-12)
- Blazetic made 31 assists to lead the team in their straight set victory.
- Smith and senior outside hitter Ella Rogers (Painesville / Mentor) each had 11 kills. This was a career match best for Rogers, and she posted a .429 hitting percentage as well.
- Senior libero Paige Contris (Pemberville / Eastwood) made a team-leading 23 digs.
vs. Hanover (Ind.) (11-6)
- The Yellow Jackets won the first two sets to extend their 11-set win streak that started against Wooster on Tuesday.
- BW dropped the third set 23-25 after holding a five-point lead midway through the set.
- The Jackets fell short in the fifth set 12-15 for their lone loss of the weekend.
vs. Bluffton (10-11)
- Blazetic earned 34 assists while leading the team in that category.
- Sophomore outside hitter Lyla Nash (Berkey / Evergreen) earned 13 kills to help the Jackets earn the victory.
- Freshman middle hitter Julia Garland (Columbus / Hilliard Davidson) and Nash each recorded two blocks.
