BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's volleyball team hosted the Marcia French Invitational at Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Recreation Center. The Jackets fell to John Carroll University and Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.) but bounced back in their final match of the weekend against Mount St. Joseph University.
BW (2-4) opened the weekend on Friday against John Carroll falling in three close sets by scores of 26-24, 25-20, and 25-18. On Saturday, they fell to Carnegie Mellon in straight sets by scores of 25-17, 25-19 and 25-18. The Jackets finished out the weekend defeating Mount St. Joseph in four sets by scores of 25-19, 25-23, 22-25 and 25-17.
vs. John Carroll (3-3)
- Junior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference setter Katarina Blazetic (DeLand, Fla. / DeLand) recorded a team-high 25 assists, while also contributing 15 digs
- Sophomore outside hitter Lexi Smith (Tiffin / Columbian) led the squad in kills with 11
- Junior Academic All-OAC outside hitter Gabby Schlecht (Naperville, Ill. / North) contributed all around the court totaling 8 kills, two blocks and one assist
- Senior libero/defensive specialist Paige Contris (Pemberville / Eastwood) led the team in digs with 16 as well as adding six assists
vs. Carnegie Mellon (6-1)
- Blazetic led the Jackets in assists and service aces, with 26 assists and two service aces while also adding 10 digs
- Sophomore middle hitter India Woodson (Oakwood Village / Bedford) had a team-high nine kills and three blocks
- Contris led the team in digs for the second game in a row with 17
- First-year Paige Henley (Cuyahoga Heights) in her first career action collected one block, two kills, and two digs
vs. Mount St. Joseph (4-3)
- Smith, playing in all four sets led the Jackets in kills totaling 11
- For the third straight match, Blazetic totaled over 20 assists, having 34 assists this match, while also adding 16 digs
- First-year middle hitter Grace Keane (Cleveland / St. Joseph Academy) and Contris both served three service aces
