Strong First Half Surge Propels Men's Basketball Past Wilmington

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team defeated Wilmington College in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup, 75-63, inside Ursprung Gymnasium. 

A balanced offensive performance and efficient shooting day allowed the Yellow Jackets to get their second win of the 2025-26 conference slate. 

BW Leaders (5-11, 2-5 OAC) 

  • Junior Academic All-OAC guard Titus Baskerville IV (Stow-Munroe Falls) finished with a team-high 10 points and game-high four assists 

  • Sophomore guard Brock Beech (Medina) recorded 10 points and led the team with six rebounds 

  • Junior forward AJ Pestello (Cuyahoga Falls/Stow-Munroe Falls) tallied 10 points and had five rebounds 

  • Junior Academic All-OAC forward Andrew Griffith (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) totaled nine points and three assists off the bench 

Wilmington Leaders (7-9, 3-4 OAC) 

  • Junior guard Elijah Cathey recorded a game-high 15 points and totaled four rebounds, while shooting an efficient five-of-eight from the field 

  • Sophomore guard Izaiah Cathey finished with 10 points and one rebound 

  • Senior guard Domenic Farley added eight points and three rebounds 

First Half (BW 41-29) 

  • Pestello started the scoring off with a layup on the opening possession  

  • The Brown and Gold went on a 13-2 run in the middle of the half to grow their lead to 34-19; Wilmington finished strong with a 10-7 run of their own in the final  

  • Five BW players recorded multiple made baskets, with Pestello and Beech leading the way with six points 

  • The Yellow Jackets shot a blistering 7-13 from beyond the arc and 15-28 overall from the field 

  • BW dominated the glass, outrebounding the Quakers, 20-9 

 Second Half (BW 75-63) 

  • Freshman guard Josh Byers (Strongsville) recorded the first points of the half with a pull-up jumper in the opening minute 

  • Wilmington came out on fire in the opening 4:30, as they outscored the Yellow Jackets 11-2 

  • The Brown and Gold responded, and both teams traded baskets throughout the half 

  • BW was able to pull away, ending the game on a 7-2 run in the final 3:56 

  • The Yellow Jackets held the Quakers to 10-28 from the field with a suffocating defensive effort
