No. 15 Women’s Basketball Beats Wilmington at Home for 11th Straight Win

BEREA, Ohio - The No. 15 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace women's basketball team defeated the Wilmington Quakers by a score of 80-46 in the second game of a BW men's and women's basketball Ohio Athletic Conference double-header in Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Recreation Center.

BW (14-2, 7-0 OAC) extended their win streak to 11 straight games with a strong offensive performance led by a career-high 19-point game from junior guard Laura McCoy (Newton Falls/Garrettsville Garfield). 

BW Leaders (14-2, 7-0 OAC)
  • McCoy led the team with 19 points while adding seven rebounds and an assist
  • Senior forward Kayla Jones (Grove City) collected a team-high nine rebounds while giving out three assists
  • Senior forward Brooke Thompson (Maineville/Little Miami) totaled a team leading three blocks while adding eight rebounds and six points
  • Sophomore guard Elise Champagne (Columbia Station/Columbia) led the Yellow Jackets with two steals while scoring ten points 

Wilmington Leaders (5-10, 2-4 OAC)
  • Gabby Russell led the Quakers with 21 points and two steals
  • Stephanie Altstaetter collected a team-high 11 rebounds and two assists 
  • Olivia Trusty contributed six points while shooting 2-2 on three point shots  

1st Quarter (27-15 BW)
  • Two straight layups from Thompson gave the Yellow Jackets their first lead of the game 
  • McCoy scored 16 points in the quarter, going 4-4 on three point shots 
  • BW went 2-2 on free throws

2nd Quarter (49-25 BW)
  • Senior guard Leah Riley (Cincinnati/Sycamore) scored six points 
  • Senior guard Kaycie Badylak (Cincinnati/Archbishop Nichols) and junior guard Ava Wilkerson (West Mansfield/Marysville) each gave out two assists 
  • BW outscored the Quakers 22-10

3rd Quarter (63-33 BW)
  • BW out-rebounded Wilmington 16-6
  • Champagne and junior guard Taylor Bass (Strongsville) each recorded their first assists of the matchup

4th Quarter (80-46 BW)
  • The Yellow Jackets finished the matchup on an 8-0 run
  • BW had two steals
