MELBOUNRE, Fla. – The Baldwin Wallace University softball split a pair of non-conference on day three of the 2026 Space Coast Space Games at the Space Coast Softball Complex.
BW (4-2) opened the day by defeating the University of Wisconsin at Superior (9-6) by a final score of 9-3. The Yellow Jackets fell Shenandoah (Va.) University (11-2) by a final score of 8-7 in the second game.
Against Wisconsin-Superior, BW scored a season-high nine runs on a season-bets 14 hits as it plated two runs in the first, one each in the second, third and fourth innings, three in the fifth and one in the sixth. Superior scored three runs on six hits as it plated two runs in the second inning and one in the sixth.
At the Plate
- Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference left fielder Sam Peterkoski (Berea/Berea-Midpark) went 3-for-4 with a run scored and two stolen bases
- Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC third baseman Mia Maddamma (North Royalton) went 3-for-4 with a career-high two doubles, two runs scored and two runs batted-
- Junior right handed pitcher Katie Barnhart (North Ridgeville) went 2-for-4 with first career triple, run scored and RBI
- Senior first baseman Avery Curran (Kitchener, Ontario, CANADA/Resurrection Catholic) went 2-for-3 with her first career double and home run, two runs scored and RBI
- Senior Academic All-OAC second baseman Sabrina Burke (London) went 2-for-3 with a triple and career-high three RBIs
In the Circle
- Barnhart picked up her second win of the season as she allowed three runs (two earned ) on six hits with five strikeouts and no walks
Against Shenandoah, the Yellow Jackets scored seven runs on nine hits as they plated one run in the second, three in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth. The Hornets scored eight runs on 16 hits as they pushed three runs across the plate in the third inning, one in the fifth and four in the seventh
At the Plate
- Curran went 2-for-4 with a double, one run scored and two RBIs
- Burke went 2-for-3
- Five other BW hitters had a base knock highlighted by the two-run home run by junior first baseman Lexie Vaillant (Bowling Green/Perrysburg)
In the Circle
- Sophomore righty Breckyn Daniel (Berea/Berea-Midpark) suffered the loss as she allowed eight runs (four earned) on 16 hits with one strikeout and one walk
The Yellow Jackets closes out play at the Space Coast Spring Games on March 13 with non-conference games against the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire and Grinnell (Iowa) College at 12:15 a.m. and 4:45 p.m., respectively
