MELBOUNRE, Fla. – The Baldwin Wallace University softball closed out the Space Coast Spring Games with a split of a pair of non-conference games at the Space Coast Softball Complex.
BW (5-3) opened the day by as it fell to the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire (8-4) by a final score of 8-0. In the night cap, the Yellow Jackets defeated Grinnell (Iowa) College (2-6) by a final score of 17-8 in five innings.
Against Eau Claire, BW was held scoreless on three hits. The Bluegolds scored eight runs on 12 hits as it pushed four runs across the plate in the first, one in the fourth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh
At the Plate
- Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference Sam Peterkoski (Berea/Berea-Midpark) went 1-for-3 with a stolen base
- Senior Academic All-OAC Sam Smearman (Middleburg Heights/Berea-Midpark) went 1-for-3
- Senior Academic All-OAC Sabrina Burke (London) went 1-for-1 with a walk
In the Circle
- Junior right hander Katie Barnhart (North Ridgeville) took the loss as she allowed seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits with one strikeout and one walk in 5.1 innings pitched
- Freshman right Bailey Licht (Eastlake/North) pitched the final 1.2 innings and allowed one run on two hits with a strikeout and walk
Against Grinnell, the Yellow Jackets scored a season-high 18 runs on 10 hits as they plated six runs in the first inning, six in the third, two in the fourth and three in the fifth. The Pioneers scored eight runs on eight hits as they pushed four runs across the plate in the first and four in the fourth.
At the Plate
- Freshman shortstop Morgan Palos (Elyria) went 3-for-3 with two doubles, three runs scored and three runs batted-in (RBIs)
- Burke went 2-for-5 with two runs scored, RBI, and stolen base
- Five other BW hitters had a base knock highlighted by a double from Peterkoski, the first career hit by sophomore outfielder Katie Galmarini (Lake Charles, La./Alfred M. Barbe)
- Senior designated player Avery Curran (Kitchener, Ontario, CANADA/Resurrection Catholic) and junior Academic All-OAC catcher Mia Strizak (Middleburg Heights/Berea-Midpark) each tallied their first career stolen base
In the Circle
- Sophomore right hander Breckyn Daniel (Berea/Berea-Midpark) got the start and pitched a third of an inning and allowed four runs (three earned) on two hits with oen walk
- Barnhart pitched the final 4.2 innings to pick up her third win of the season as she allowed four runs on six hits with two strikeouts and two walks
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, March 21 when they open OAC action and host a doubleheader against Wilmington College on the BW Softball Field inside the Roehm Athletic Complex at 1 p.m.
