Softball Dominates Wilmington in Home and OAC Opening Sweep

BEREA, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University softball kicked off its home and conference seasons with authority, sweeping Wilmington College in a doubleheader at the BW Softball Field inside the Roehm Athletic Complex.

In game one, BW (7-3, 2-0 OAC) scored 10 runs on seven hits as it plated six runs in the first, including four on the grand slam from junior first baseman Lexie Vaillant (Bowling Green/Perrysburg), three in the second, including two on the blast from senior designated player Avery Curran (Kitchener, Ontario, CANADA/Resurrection Catholic), and one in the fifth.   Wilmington (4-8, 0-2 OAC) scored two runs on three hits as it pushed one across the plate in the second and fourth innings.
At the Plate
  • Junior Academic All-OAC catcher Mia Strizak (Middleburg Heights/Berea-Midpark) went 2-for-2 with two doubles, two runs batted-in and walk
  • Five other Yellow Jackets had a base knock highlighted by the homeruns from Curran and Vaillant, triple from senior Academic All-OAC second baseman Sabrina Burke (London) and double from junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC third baseman Mia Maddamma (North Royalton)
In the Circle
  • Sophomore right hander Breckyn Daniel (Berea/Berea-Midpark) earned her first career OAC victory and third win of the season as she allowed two runs on three hits with one strikeout and three walks
In game two, BW scored nine runs on 13 hits as it plated one run in the second, third and fourth innings and six in the sixth.  The Quakers scored seven runs on 10 hits as they pushed five runs across the plate in the second inning and two in the seventh.
At the Plate
  • Freshman shortstop Morgan Palos (Elyria) went 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and three RBIs
  • Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC center fielder Steph Mraz (Strongsville) went 3-for-3 with a double, run scored, two RBIs and stolen base
  • Curran went 2-for-3 with a run scored, RBI and walk
  • Five other Yellow Jacket hitters had a base hit highlighted by the double from Strizak
In the Circle
  • Senior righty Katie Barnhart (North Ridgeville) got the start and allowed five runs on five hits in 1.2 innings pitched with one strikeout and one walk
  • Daniel earned her second win of the day as she pitched the final 5.1 innings and allowed two runs on five hits with one strikeout and one walk
BW is back in action on Tuesday, March 24 when it travels to Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania for a non-conference doubleheader against Geneva College on the Bill and Rita Conrady Softball inside Merriman Athletic Complex at 3 p.m.
