Women’s Lacrosse Defeated in Two-Day OAC Opener at Mount Union

ALLIANCE, Ohio –
 The Baldwin Wallace women's lacrosse team lost against Mount Union University by a score of 11-9 in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup making their season record 5-3 and 0-1 in the OAC.

BW started this game on Thursday with a 5-7 deficit before the game was postponed due to severe weather during the halftime break. The Yellow Jackets returned to Alliance this evening and outscored the Purple Raiders 2-1 in the third period to shrink the lead. Mount Union responded with three unanswered goals to start the fourth period to lock up their win.

The Yellow Jackets were led by All-OAC junior midfielder Clare Alic (Carmel, Ind./Guerin Catholic) and freshman attack Hayley Huston (Strongsville) who each contributed three goals. Sophomore midfielder Lexi Miller (Strongsville) boosted the offense with a team-leading two assists. Alic led with five draw controls. Junior midfielder/defender Sarah Zoul (Strongsville) led the defense with three ground balls and four caused turnovers. First-year goalkeeper Aubrey Berner (Columbus/Dublin Coffman) made 10 saves on 21 shots on goal.

The Mount Union Purple Raiders was led by Lizzie Dorley who scored three goals and had an assist. Mae Pawlikowski had four ground balls and three caused turnovers for the defense. Netminder Kaitlyn Kuczinski made five saves on 14 shots on goal in the Mount Union victory.

First Quarter (5-2 UMU)
  • Mount Union started off hot with five goals to BW's two
  • The Purple Raiders outmatched the Yellow Jackets 5-2 in the draw control battle
  • Mount Union out-shot BW 12-4

Second Quarter (7-5 UMU)
  • The Purple Raiders held the lead at half, but BW outscored UMU 3-2 in the quarter
  • Mount Union won the draw control war at the half 7-5 (BW 3-2 in the quarter)
  • UMU out-shot BW seven to five in the quarter, bringing the total to 19-9 at halftime

Third Quarter (8-7 UMU)
  • Mount Union had three goals opposed to Baldwin Wallace's two
  • BW and UMU were even with 2-2 in draw controls
  • BW barely out-shot UMU seven to six

Fourth Quarter (11-9 UMU)
  • Lizzie Dorley had a goal and an assist in the 3-0 UMU run to start the quarter
  • The Purple Raiders out-shot BW 13-3 in the final frame and 38-19 overall
  • Huston and Alic scored late unassisted goals, but could not overcome the deficit
