No. 25 Baseball Drops Matchup against NCAA Division I Kent State

KENT, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team dropped a road contest against NCAA Division I Kent State University by a score of 16-7 at Olga Mural Field at Schoonover Stadium. 

BW had a 2-0 lead after the top half of the first inning, but the strong offense by the Golden Flashes was enough to take the contest by nine runs.

Scoring Summary

  • Top 1st - Senior center fielder Dennis Ritlinger-Nirider (Grove City) had an RBI double down the left field line to open up the scoring for both teams

  • Top 1st - Sophomore right fielder Maddox Tarquinio (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour) had a single of his own which came down the right field line to extend the Yellow Jacket lead to two

  • Top 3rd - Trailing 6-2 after the first two innings of play, junior first baseman Ryan Gordon (Strongsville) drove in a run on a single to cut the BW deficit to three runs

  • Top 6th - Senior left-fielder John Panstares (Westlake/St. Ignatius) added an extra run on a swing to left center field for the Yellow Jackets which was his second career home run

  • Top 7th - After the game was delayed due to lightning, Ritlinger-Nirider had a double to right center for the Brown and Gold's fifth run of the game

  • Top 7th -  Junior designated-hitter Colin West (Westborough, Mass./Worcester Academy) had a single to right center that scored two runs and cut the BW deficit to four runs at the time, 11-7

At the Plate

  • Senior third-baseman Sean Kolenich (Parma/St. Edward) finished the game going 4-for-5 with a stolen base and scored three runs; he now has three games with four or more hits

  • Ritlinger-Nirider finished the day going 2-for-5 with two doubles, two runs batted in and two runs scored

  • West went 2-for-4 at the plate which included driving in two runs

On the Mound

  • Freshman utility player Joseph Wheeler (Columbus/Bishop Watterson) had a good day on the mound, going two innings while striking out one batter and allowing one run

  • Gordon appeared on the mound in the bottom half of the seventh; he allowed no runs and struck no batters, making it the first time in his career in which he pitched a scoreless inning in three appearances on the mound with the Brown and Gold

The Yellow Jackets are back in action tomorrow, March 31, when the team plays host to Hiram College. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
