Baseball Defeats Valley Forge (Pa.) in Both Games of Doubleheader

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team swept a doubleheader against Valley Forge (Pa.) University, winning the first game by a score of 12-3 and the second one by a score of 11-8.

The offense was the story in both games, with the Yellow Jackets scoring at least 10 runs in back-to-back games for the first time since April 21-26, 2025, where they scored at least 11 runs in three consecutive games.

Game 1

Scoring Summary

Bottom 1st – After starting the game down 2-0, Junior designated hitter Colin West (Westborough, Mass./Worcester Academy) hit a sacrifice fly to score the first run of the game for the Yellow Jackets

Bottom 2nd - Senior shortstop Matt Terzola (Uniontown/Archbishop Hoban) had a hard ground ball single into left field to plate two runs

Bottom 2nd - Senior center fielder Dennis Ritlinger-Nirider (Grove City) had an RBI single, which plated Terzola

Bottom 4th - Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference third baseman Sean Kolenich (Parma/St Edward) sent a two-run shot over the left field fence to put the Yellow Jackets up 6-3, which was also the first home run of the trip

Bottom 5th - Sophomore utility player Maddox Tarquinio (McKees Rock, Pa./Montour) hit a solo homer of his own, which also went to left field

Bottom 6th - Junior first baseman Ryan Gordon (Strongsville) hit a ground ball single, which plated two

Bottom 6th - A fielder's choice by Tarquinio and an error by the Valley Forge pitcher made it an 11-3 BW lead

Bottom 6th - Sophomore outfielder Cody Martin (Reynoldsburg) drove in the 12th run of the game for the Yellow Jackets with an RBI single 

 
At the Plate 
  • Kolenich had his fifth mult-hit game this season by going 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, and a walk, and had two RBI

  • Tarquinio was 2-for-4 with three RBI and hit his first career home run in the bottom of the fifth

  • Terzola was 2-for-3 with two singles for the contest

On the Mound
  • Senior right-hander Tyler Walker (Fairlawn/Copley) was the starting and winning pitcher for the Brown and Gold; he pitched five innings and struck out six while allowing three runs to improve to 1-0 on the season

  • Sophomore right-hander Sam Hoffman (Mentor/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) pitched the last two innings and struck out four, giving up no runs and issuing just one walk

Scoring Summary

Top 1st - Ritlinger-Nirider had an RBI double to open up the scoring in the second game of the doubleheader

Top 1st - West had an RBI of his own to score the second run of the game, which was accomplished by a double

Top 1st - Tarquinio had a sacrifice groundout to score West and make it 3-0 early

Top 1st - The scoring in the opening frame was ended by junior Academic All-OAC infielder Carson Petrecca (Willowick Eastlake North), who hit a home run to left, with the swing being a two-run shot

Top 2nd - After the Brown and Gold lead was cut in half, West hit a sacrifice fly to make it 6-3

Top 3rd - Sophomore catcher Owen Brazee (Bedford, Mass./Lawrence Academy) had an RBI double for his first RBI of the season

Top 5thRitlinger-Nirider had a hard hit single for his second hit of the game

Top 5thWest had a single, which brought home two runs to extend the Yellow Jacket lead to seven runs

Top 7th - Terzola scored on a passed ball to give the BW an insurance run late 

 
At the Plate
  • Ritlinger-Nirider reached all four times he appeared at the plate, which included a double, a walk, and two singles 

  • West was 2-for-3 with a double and four RBI

  • Petrecca was 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, and a walk as one of the main contributors to the Yellow Jacket offense


On the Mound

  • Freshman right-hander Austin Coy (East Canton/Canton Central Catholic) was effective on the mound in relief, going 3 ? innings, allowing no hits and striking out one batter

  • Junior right-hander Will Henderlich (Madison) went two innings and struck out three Valley Forge hitters

  • Senior left-hander Nolan Kellicker (Dover) finished the game by pitching one inning and getting two of his outs via the strikeout
