#16 Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Muskingum

NEW CONCORD, Ohio
– The No. 16 nationally-ranked Baldwin Wallace University baseball team split an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader with Muskingum University.

The Yellow Jackets won the first game 13-1 thanks to some good offensive play. A tighter second game ensued, with the game being tied at four after nine innings before Muskingum secured the win in the bottom of the 10th inning. The final score was 5-4.

This brings BW's record to 20-7 with an OAC record of 7-3.

Game One (13-1 BW)

Scoring Summary

Top 1st - Junior first baseman Ryan Gordon (Strongsville) opened the scoring for the game with an RBI from a sacrifice fly

Top 1st - Junior second-basemen Carson Petrecca (Willowick/Eastlake North) doubled home run number two for the Yellow Jackets

Top 1st – Senior right-fielder John Panstares (Westlake/St. Ignatius) singled home another run to give BW a 3-0 lead

Top 2nd – Yellow Jacket Men's Athlete of the Month Dennis Ritlinger-Nirider (Grove City) doubled home a run to bring the game to 4-1

Top 3rd – Sophomore catcher Owen Brazee (Bedford, Mass./Lawrence Academy) hit a sacrifice fly to score the fifth BW run of the game

Top 4th – Petrecca hit an RBI single for a 6-1 BW lead

Top 8th – Ritlinger-Niridier singled home Yellow Jacket run number seven

Top 9th – Senior shortstop Matt Terzola (Uniontown/Archbishop Hoban) hit a sacrifice fly to push the BW lead to 8-1

Top 9th – A grand slam by Ritlinger-Nirider pushed BW into a double-digit lead, with the score being 12-1

Top 9th – An RBI double by Petrecca pushed BW's run total to 13 for the game

At the Plate

  • Ritlinger-Nirider went 5-for-6 with a team-leading six RBI, a double, and a grand slam

  • Petrecca went 3-for-5 with three RBI and a team-leading two doubles

  • Senior third-baseman Sean Kolenich (Parma/St. Edward) went 2-for-4 with a double, three runs, and two walks

  • Junior designated-hitter Colin West (Westborough, Mass./Worcester Academy) went 2-for-6 with a double and two runs scored

  • Panstares also had a multi-hit game on 2-for-4 hitting and added an RBI

On the Mound

  • Sophomore left-hander Tyler Vogel (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowed no runs, struck out nine hitters, and was credited with a win

  • Junior right-hander Will Henderlich (Madison) pitched 2 1/3 innings of relief, allowed no runs, and struck out three

  • Senior left-hander Nolan Kellicker (Dover) pitched one inning, allowed no hits and no runs, and struck out one batter

Game Two (5-4 Muskingum, 10 Inn.)

Scoring Summary

Top 4th – An error by the Muskingum shortstop allowed Gordon to score and open the scoring for the game

Top 4th Terzola increased the BW lead to 3-0 with a two-run single

Top 7th – A West single allowed BW to take a one-run lead with the score being 4-3

Bottom 10th – A walk-off RBI single by Muskingum's Olly Schrader gave Muskingum a 5-4 win

At the Plate

  • Ritlinger-Nirider had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a double and a walk

  • Petrecca ended the day going 2-for-5 with a run scored

  • Panstares went 2-for-5 with two singles

  • Terzola led BW with two RBI on a 1-for-2 hitting

  • West went 1-for-5 with an RBI double

On the Mound
