Softball Battles to Split with No. 25 Muskingum

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team split an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader with No. 25 nationally ranked Muskingum University on the BW Softball field inside the Roehm Athletic Complex.

In game one, BW (13-7, 6-4 OAC) scored seven runs on eight hits as it plated three runs in the first inning and one each in the second, third, fourth and sixth.   Muskingum (21-5, 6-2 OAC) scored four runs on eight hits as it pushed one run across the plate in the fifth and three in the seventh.

At the Plate
  • Junior All-OAC left fielder Sam Peterkoski (Berea/Berea-Midpark) went 3-for-4 with one run scored, two runs batted-in (RBIs) and a stolen base
  • Senior first baseman Avery Curran (Kitchener, Ontario, CANADA/Resurrection Catholic) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and RBI
In the Circle
  • Junior right hander Katie Barnhart (North Ridgeville) earned her sixth win of the season as she allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits with one strikeout and two walks
In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored one runs on six hits as they plated their lone run in the second inning.   The Fighting Muskies scored six runs on eight hits as they pushed one run across the plate each in the second and third innings and two each in the fifth and sixth.

At the Plate
  • Curran went 2-for-3
  • Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC center fielder Steph Mraz (Strongsville) went 2-for-3 with an RBI
  • Junior first baseman Lexie Vaillant (Bowling Green/Perrysburg) and freshman shortstop Morgan Palos (Elyria) each added a hit with Palos having a double and run scored
In the Circle
  • Sophomore righty Breckyn Daniel (Berea/Berea-Midpark) took the loss as she allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits with three strikeouts and four walks in five innings.
  • Barnhart pitched the final two innings and allowed two runs on two hits with two strikeouts
BW is back in action on Saturday, April 18 when it travels to Marietta for an OAC doubleheader against Marietta College on Marietta Field at 1 p.m.
