MARIETTA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team rallied in game two to earn a split with Marietta College in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader on Jeanne Arbuckle Field.
In game one BW (14-8, 7-5 OAC) scored five runs on seven hits as it plated one run in the second inning, one in the second off the solo shot from junior designated player Lexie Valliant (Bowling Green/Perrysburg) and three in the fifth of the blast from senior first baseman Avery Curran (Kitchener, Ontario, CANADA/Resurrection Catholic). Marietta (18-14, 4-6 OAC) scored 13 runs on 16 hits as it pushed two runs across the plate in the first inning, six in the second, three in the third and one in the fourth and sixth.
At the Plate
- Junior All-OAC left fielder Sam Peterkoski (Berea/Berea-Midpark) went 3-for-3 with a double, run scored and walk
- Curran went 1-for-2 with a three run homer, run scored and three runs batted-in (RBIs) and walk
- Valliant (Bowling Green/Perrysburg) went 1-for-3 with a homerun, run scored and RBI
- Senior Academic All-OAC second baseman Sabrina Burke (London) went 1-for-3 with a triple, run scored and walk
- Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC center fielder Steph Mraz (Strongsville) went 1-for-2 with a double and walk
In the Circle
- Senior right hander Katie Barnhart (North Ridgeville) took the loss as she allowed five runs on three hits with one strikeout and four walks in one inning pitched
- Sophomore righty Breckyn Daniel (Berea/Berea-Midpark) pitched 1.1 innings and allowed five runs on four hits with one walk
- Freshman right hander Bailey Licht (Eastlake/North) pitched a career-high 2.2 innings and allowed three runs on nine hits with one strikeout and five walks
In game two the Yellow Jacket scored 14 runs on a season-high 15 hits as they plated one run in the first inning, two in the third off the first career homerun for
Burke and a solo shot by
Curran, seven in the fourth including one off the solo shot from
Mraz and two on the blast from
Curran, one in sixth and three in the seventh. The Pioneers scored 13 runs on 13 hits as they pushed two runs across the plate in the fourth inning, nine in the fifth and two in the sixth.
At the Plate
- Burke went 3-for-4 with homer, career-best four runs scored, two RBIs and stolen base
- Peterkoski went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and RBI
- Freshman shortstop Morgan Palos (Elyria) went 2-for-4 with a double, a career-high three runs scored, career-best tying three RBIs, including the game-winning RBI double and walk
- Curran went 3-for-4 with a two homeruns, two runs scored, three RBIs and walk
- Mraz went 3-for-5 with a double, homerun, run scored and three RBIs
In the Circle
- Daniel picked up the win as she allowed eight runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts and three walks in 6.1 innings
- Barnhart allowed five runs on three hits with one strikeouts and two walks in two-thirds of an inning
