BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team split its fourth straight Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader as it won the second game against Heidelberg University on the BW Softball Field inside the Roehm Athletic Complex.
In game one, BW (15-9, 8-6 OAC) scored two runs on seven hits as it plated one run in second and fourth innings. Heidelberg (22-13, 5-7 OAC) scored nine runs on 11 hits as it pushed three runs across the plate in the third inning, one in the fourth and five in the sixth.
At the Plate
- Senior designated player Avery Curran (Kitchener, Ontario, CANADA/Resurrection Catholic) went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored
- Junior first baseman Lexie Vaillant (Bowling Green/Perrysburg) went 2-for-3 with a run batted-in (RBI)
- Three other Yellow Jacket hitters had a base knock highlighted by the RBI single from senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC center fielder Steph Mraz (Strongsville)
In the Circle
- Senior right hander Katie Barnhart (North Ridgeville) took the loss as she allowed nine runs (five earned) on 11 hits with career-high tying five strikeouts and two walks
In game two, BW scored eight runs on 13 hits as it plated three runs in the first inning, four in the second and one in the fifth. The Student Princes scored five runs on nine hits as they pushed one across the plate in the first inning and two in the fifth and seventh.
At the Plate
- Junior All-OAC left fielder Sam Peterkioski (Berea/Berea-Midpark) went 4-for-4 with a run scored, RBI and stolen base
- Mraz went 3-for-4 with a double, run scored and two RBIs
- Vaillant went 2-for-4 with a RBI
- Four other Yellow Jackets had a base hit highlighted by tge RBI single from freshman shortstop Morgan Palos (Elyria)
In the Circle
- Sophomore righty Breckyn Daniel (Berea/Berea-Midpark) went the distance for her eighth win of the season as she allowed five runs (four earned) on nine hits with a strikeout and two walks.
BW is back in action on Thursday, April 23 when it travels to Wooster for a non-conference doubleheader against The College of Wooster in Galpin Park at 3:30 p.m.
