BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team swept Ohio Northern University in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader on Bluffton Field on the campus of Bluffton University.
In game one, BW (17-9, 10-6 OAC) scored six runs on 10 hits as it plated one run in the first inning, one in the fourth, three in the fifth and one in the seventh. Ohio Northern (9-24, 3-10 OAC) scored five runs on 10 hits as it pushed one run across the plate in the first and second innings and three in the sixth.
At the Plate
- Junior All-OAC catcher Mia Strizak (Middleburg Heights/Berea-Midpark) went two run scored
- Junior first baseman Lexie Vaillant (Bowling Green/Perrysburg) went 2-for-4 with a homerun, two run scored, three runs batted-in (RBIS)
- Six other Yellow Jackets had base knock highlighted by the first career triple from Academic All-OAC right fielder Sam Smearman (Middleburg Heights/Berea-Midpark)
In the Circle
- Sophomore right hander Breckyn Daniel (Berea/Berea-Midpark) got the start and allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits with one walk in 1.2 inning pitched
- Senior righty Katie Barnhart (North Ridgeville) picked up the win as she allowed three runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and one walk
In game one, BW scored 13 runs on 11 hits as they plated five runs in the first inning, one third in the third, four in the fourth and three in the fifth. The Polar Bears scored 10 runs on 15 hits as they pushed three runs across the plate in the first, second and fourth innings and one in the seventh.
At the Plate
- Senior Academic All-OAC second baseman Sabrina Burke (London) went 3-for-4 with one run, a career-high three RBIs and stolen base
- Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC center fielder Steph Mraz (Strongsville) went 2-for-4 with a double, a career-best three runs scored, two RBIs
- Six other Yellow Jackets had a base hit highlighted by the homerun Vaillant
In the Circle
- Freshman right hander Bailey Licht (Eastlake/North) picked the win as she allowed six runs (five earned) on nine hits in three innings
- Barnhart allowed three runs on four hits in two-thirds of an inning.
- Daniel allowed one run on two hits with two strikeouts and one walk in 3.1 innings pitched
BW is back in action on Monday, April 27 when it travels to Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania for a rescheduled non-conference doubleheader against Geneva College on the Bill and Rita Conrady Softball Field inside the Merriman Athletic Complex at 3:30 p.m.
