Licht’s No Hitter Highlights Softball Split with Geneva (Pa.)

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Baldwin Wallace University softball freshman right hander pitcher Bailey Licht (Eastlake/North) threw her first career complete game no-hitter as the the Baldwin Wallace University softball team split a rescheduled doubleheader with Geneva College in a on the Bill and Rita Conrady Softball Field inside the Merriman Athletic Complex.

BW (18-10) and Geneva (32-8) were originally scheduled to play on March 24 but was postponed until April 20 and the again until today due to inclement weather.

In game one, the Yellow Jackets scored three runs on 10 hits as they plated one run in the first inning and two in the second.  The Golden Tornadoes were held scoreless and hit less.

At the Plate
  • Junio All-Ohio Athletic Conference left fielder Sam Peterkoski (Berea/Berea-Midpark) went 3-for-4 with a double, run scored, two runs batted-in (RBIs) and a stolen base
  • Senior Academic All-OAC right fielder Sam Smearman (Middleburg Heights/Berea-Midpark) went 2-for-3 with a run scored
  • Senior Academic All-OAC second baseman Sabrina Burke (London) went 2-for-4 with a run scored
  • Three other BW hitters had a base knock highlighted by the RBI double from senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC center fielder Steph Mraz (Strongsville) and a double from junior Academic All-OAC catcher Mia Strizak (Middleburg Heights/Berea-Midpark)
In the Circle
  • Licht pitched her first career complete shutout and no-hitter game of her career as she did not allow a run or a hit with a strike out and walk in a career-best seven innings pitched.  Licht, who won her second straight game and third of the season, threw just 79 pitches
In game two, BW scored one run on seven hits as it plated its lone run in the third.  Geneva scored five runs on four hits as they pushed one run across the plate in the second and four in the fourth.
At the Plate
  • Senior first baseman Avery Curran (Kitchener, Ontario, CANADA/Resurrection Catholic) went 3-for-4 with an RBI
  • Four other Yellow Jackets had a base hit
In the Circle
  • Senior righty Katie Barnhart (North Ridgeville) took the loss as she allowed five runs on three hits with a strikeout and two walks in 3.1 innings pitched
  • Sophomore right hander Breckyn Daniel (Berea/Berea-Midpark) pitched the final 2.2 innings and did not allow a run on hit with a strikeout and two walks
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Tuesday, April 28 when they host a non-conference and Seniors' Day doubleheader against Oberlin College on the BW Softball Field inside the Roehm Athletic Complex at 3:30 p.m.
