Outstanding Senior Athlete Awards Presented to Miller and Petrella

BEREA, Ohio – Senior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference women's basketball forward Alyssa Miller (New Philadelphia) and senior All-American 197-pound men's wrestler Joey Petrella (Reynoldsburg/Bishop Hartley) have been selected as the 2025-26 Outstanding Senior Athlete Award Winners.

The Kenneth Steingass Most Outstanding Male Athlete has been awarded since 1948-49 while the Marcia French Most Outstanding Female Athlete was first awarded in 1981-82. Both are presented annually to a deserving senior which is voted on by the coaches. 

Miller becomes the 13th women's basketball player to achieve this honor, including the second straight and the fourth in the last five years. In her final season, Miller appeared and started in all 29 games. She was named the OAC Defender of the Year after leading the league with 49 blocks. She averaged 4.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game. In her career, Miller totaled 488 points, 458 rebounds, and 138 assists. She also recorded 131 career blocks, which is the second-most in program history. Off the court, Miller was a three-time Academic All-OAC honoree, two-time College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District selection, Jacket Scholar and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society.

Petrella, who joins his brother Michael (2024-25) and father Paul (1978-79) as award winners, becomes the 18th men's wrestler to earn the accolade, including the third straight and the fifth in the last eight years.  He closed out his career by claiming his second straight All-American honor with a fifth place finish at the 2026 NCAA Division III Championships.  Petrella posted a record of 25-4.  He was tied for fourth on the team with 11 pins.  Petrella recorded six technical falls and a career-best three major decisions.  He was an All-OAC second team selection and a two-time All-OAC Wrestler of the Week Award recipient. For his career, Petrella ranks tied for 51st on the all-time wins list with a mark of 68-12. He tallied 23 pins, 21 technical falls and five major decisions. Petrella is a two-time All-American, two-time OAC Wrestler of the Week Award winner, two-time All-Region performer, two-time national qualifier and two-time invitational champion. Off the mat, he is a two-time Academic All-OAC honoree, two-time NWCA Scholar All-American, 2025 College Sports Communicators Academic All-American, 2025 CSC Academic All-District selection, Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society.
