No. 10 Baseball Ends Regular Season in Extra-Inning battle with DePauw (Ind.)

MASON, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University Baseball team competed in a thrilling 17-inning game against the Depauw (Ind.) Tigers, falling by a score of 8-7 as the team competed in their longest game by innings since at least 2019.

The loss is their first in the last nine games after going on an eight-game winning streak. The team concludes the 2026 regular season with a 28-9 (13-3 OAC) record heading into the conference tournament next week.

The Brown and Gold were led by both senior outfielder OAC Hitter of the Week Dennis Ritlinger-Nirider (Grove City) and junior second-baseman Carson Petrecca (Willowick/Eastlake North), who had four of the 19 Yellow Jacket hits.


Scoring Summary

  • Bottom 1st - Petrecca had an RBI single to open up the scoring, which was a hard ground ball to the pitcher 

  • Bottom 4th - Ritlinger-Nirider had a single to center field on a line drive, which scored two runners and regained the lead 3-2

  • Bottom 5th - Sophomore first baseman Matt DelDuca (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) had an RBI double to give BW the lead by three

  • Bottom 7th - DelDuca hit a two-run home run to tie things up at six for his second and third runs batted in of the day

  • Bottom 12th - Sophomore left fielder Mario Escano (Broadview Heights/North Royalton) had a single to score Petrecca and tie the game up at seven, and the only BW run of extra innings


At the Plate

  • Senior infielder Sean Kolenich (Parma/St. Edward) was 2-for-8 with a walk 

  • Ritlinger-Nirider went 4-for-8, had two RBIs, and also recorded a walk in nine plate appearances

  • Petrecca went 4-for-8 and had a double to tally his day

  • DelDuca finished the day going 2-for-6 with a home run and two walks

  • Junior catcher Mason Fixx (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) was the fifth Yellow Jacket to have a multi-hit game


On the Mound

  • Senior left-hander Nolan Kellicker (Dover) pitched 2 1/3 innings, struck out two batters, and issued just one walk

  • Sophomore right-hander Maddox Tarquinio (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour) went 4 1/3 innings, struck out two batters, and issued two walks

  • Freshman left-hander Michael Falls (Lancaster, N.Y.) went four innings in extras to extend the game, allowing only one hit and one walk


Up Next

The Yellow Jackets will be in postseason play next week at the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament hosted by the University of Mount Union on May 7 in a double-elimination tournament.
