Softball Closes Out Regular Season, Falls to Case Western Reserve

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team closed out the 2026 regular season schedule as it fell to crosstown rival Case Western Reserve University in a non-conference doubleheader on the BW Softball Field inside the Roehm Athletic Complex.

In game one, BW (20-12) scored five runs on seven hits as it plated four runs in the third and one in the sixth off the blast from junior first baseman Lexie Vaillant (Bowling Green/Perrysburg), who is the Ohio Athletic Conference hitter of the Week.  Case Western Reserve (23-12) scored 10 runs on 15v hits as it pushed one run across the plate in the first inning, three in the second, five in the third and one in the sixth.

At the Plate
  • Senior Academic All-OAC second baseman Sabrina Burke (London) went 2-for-4 with a run scored
  • Five other Yellow Jacket hitters had a base knock highlighted by the homer by Vaillant and the three-run double by senior All-OAC left fielder Sam Peterkoski (Berea/Berea-Midpark)
In the Circle
  • Freshman right hander Bailey Licht (Eastlake/North) took the loss as she allowed four runs on five hits with in 1.2 innings pitched
  • Senior righty Katie Barnhart (North Ridgeville) allowed five runs (none earned) on four hits with in one inning pitched
  • Sophomore right hander Breckyn Daniel (Berea/Berea-Midpark) pitched the final 4.1 innings and allowed one run on six hits with three strikeouts
In game two, BW scored one run on five hits as it plated its lone run in the seventh.  The Spartans scored seven runs on 13 hits as they pushed one run across the plate in the third, two in the fourth, one in the fifth and three in the sixth.

At the Plate
  • Junior Academic All-OAC catcher Mia Strizak (Middleburg Heights/Berea-Midpark) went 2-for-3 with an RBI
In the Circle
  • Barnhart took the loss as she allowed two runs on seven hits with two walks in three innings pitched
  • Daniel pitched 2.1 innings allowed five runs on five hits
  • Licht pitched the final 1.2 innings and allowed no runs on one hit,
The Yellow Jackets are back is back in action on Thursday, May 8 when they travel to Alliance for an OAC Tournament quarterfinal game hosted by the University of Mount Union on the 23rd Street Field at 1 p.m.
