HIRAM, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's volleyball team remains undefeated after a 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-22) sweep over the Hiram College Terriers inside Price Gymnasium.
Game Recap
Set 1 (BW, 25-23): The opening set was a grudge match with neither team establishing much offensive rhythm. There were 12 lead changes and 16 ties. BW had a .027 hitting percentage and Hiram had a .038 hitting percentage. Senior right side hitter
Lexi Smith stepped up in the end to make two kills which led to set point.
Set 2 (BW, 25-23): Both teams operated a cleaner offense with BW hitting .255 and Hiram hitting .245. The offensive performances were relatively even, as was the score given that neither team ever had a lead larger than four points. It was the Yellow Jackets applying the pressure as Hiram only had a lead for three rallies. Freshman outside hitter
Brenna Leach had five kills to lead the Brown and Gold to a set victory.
Set 3 (BW, 25-22): BW cleaned up their offense by hitting .372 as a team with 17 kills, one attack error, and one service error. Smith continued her effective night by leading the team with nine kills alongside Leach who also had nine in the evening. Smith was the most efficient offensive player in the match with a .333 hitting percentage and only one attack error.
The Matchup
Since 2009, Baldwin Wallace is 9-6 against the Terriers. The Yellow Jackets have won their fifth straight matchup. They also have not lost a set to Hiram since 2022.
Looking Ahead
The Brown and Gold will head to Oberlin College to compete in the Crimson and Gold Quad on Saturday, September 19 inside the Philips Gymnasium. They will face the University of Olivet at 10:00 a.m. and Trine University at 2:00 p.m.
