Four Men's Tennis Student-Athletes Garner ITA Scholar Athletes Accolades

TEMPE, Ariz.  – Four Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis student-athletes have been honored with Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar Athlete honors.

Senior Jonathan Brunnet (Berea/Berea-Midpark) and sophomores Mateo Gonzalez (Buffalo, N.Y. / Williamsville South)Grant Smith (Dayton/Centerville) and Anthony Tosatto (Creston/Norwayne) are four of the 772 NCAA Division IIII student-athletes to be recognized.

To earn Scholar Athlete status, a player must carry at least a 3.50 GPA for the academic year and have been listed on the institutional eligibility form.

Brunett, who earns his first accolade, was a middle childhood education major that carried a 3.50 grade point average.  For his career, Brunett has played in five matches and has a record of 1-4 in both singles and doubles. 

Gonzalez, who garners his first honor, is an international business major that carries a 3.50 grade point average.  In his first season, Gonzalez posted a record of 1-3 in both singles and doubles action.

Smith, who earns his second accolade, is a neuroscience and biology double major that carries a 3.867 grade point average.  Smith, who missed the 2021 spring season, has appeared in eight career and has a record of 6-2 in singles action and 6-2 in doubles play. 

Tosatto, who garners his second honor, is a pre-athletic training and exercise science double major that carries 3.523 grade point average.  The 2021 All-Ohio Athletic Conference second-team selection posted a 2-2 record at third singles and a 2-2 mark at second doubles this season.  For his career, Tosatto has a 3-7 record in singles action and a 2-7 record in doubles play.

Additionally, the men's tennis team was honored for the 10th time in the last 11 years as an ITA All-Academic Team.  The team was one of 111 teams recognized in Division III as it carried a 3.40 GPA. In order to achieve this honor, a team must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher on a 4.0 scale with all varsity letter winners factored into the team GPA.
