Putnam Crushes School Record; Women’s Track and Field Finishes Third After OAC Championship Day One

TIFFIN, Ohio - The Baldwin Wallace University women's indoor track and field team, led by head coach Joe Eby, finished the first day of the Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Championships in third place out of nine teams with a total of 25 points.

The top three finishers in each final event are bestowed Indoor All-OAC honors. BW has two Indoor All-OAC honorees so far.

Track Event Highlights
  • Senior Academic All-OAC distance runner Megan Hughes (Oregon/Clay) finished the 500m run in third place with a PR time of 1:19.27 to be named Indoor All-OAC.
  • Sophomore OAC Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week Jameire Honzu (Warren/Harding) earned a PR in the 60m hurdles prelims with an 8.87 second finish to qualify for tomorrow's finals.
  • In the 60m dash prelim, sophomore Kenae Moore (Cypress, Texas/Bridgeland), senior Jessica Klonowski (Parma/Holy Name), and sophomore Peyton Putnam (Shelby) all set career-bests while qualifying for the finals tomorrow. Moore took second with a 7.88 second time, Klonowski finished in fifth with a 7.98 second time, and Putnam took seventh with an 8.02 second time.

Field Event Highlights
  • Putnam cleared a school-record pole vault height of 3.78m (12' 4.75") to finish in second and be named Indoor All-OAC. She earned eight points for the Yellow Jackets with this mark. Putnam broke the school record by .21 meters.
  • Sophomore Indoor All-Ohio jumper Lucy McChesney (Greensburg, Pa./Salem) scored two points for BW in the long jump with a 5.22m (17' 1.5") jump, which was also a career best.

Relay Event Highlights
  • The distance medley relay team, junior Abbie George (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria), senior Katie Plecko (Rootstown), sophomore Lauren Jensch (Chippewa Lake/Cloverleaf), and first-year Jillian White (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory), finished with a season-best time of 12:54.43 to score five points for BW.

  • Women's indoor track and field will stay in Tiffin, Ohio to compete in day two of the OAC Indoor Championships, starting tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. inside Frann's Fieldhouse at Heidelberg University.
