Men’s Wrestling Moves Up in Latest NWCA Top-25 Poll

MANHEIM, Pa. – The Baldwin Wallace University men's wrestling team has moved up one spot in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III Top-25 National Poll.

BW (10–6, 5–0 OAC), winners of four straight dual matches, enters the latest poll ranked No. 24. The Yellow Jackets are joined in the rankings by fellow Ohio Athletic Conference foe Ohio Northern University, which sits at No. 21. BW and the Polar Bears will meet in a top-25 showdown on Thursday, February 12, in Berea, with the OAC championship on the line.

The Yellow Jackets also boast four nationally ranked wrestlers in the top 15: senior All-American and Academic All-American Joey Petrella (Reynoldsburg/Bishop Hartley), senior All-OAC standout Tommy West (Avon Lake/St. Edward), junior All-American Andrew Supers (Medina), and sophomore Christian McChesney (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg-Salem).

Petrella is the highest ranked BW wrestler as he is the top wrestler at 197 pounds.  This season, he is a perfect 15-0 with eight pins, four technical falls and two major decisions.

Supers is ranked fourth at 165 pounds.  This season, he leads the Yellow Jackets with 30 victories and a record of 30-2. Supers also leads the team in technical falls with 10 and is tied for second with 10 pins. He has also tallied seven major decisions.

West is ranked 10th ranked at 174 pounds.  This season, he is second on the team with 26 victories and a record of 26-3.  West is tied for second on the team with 10 pins.  He has also recorded six technical falls and one major decision.

McChesney jumps back into the poll as he is ranked 14th at 285 pounds.  In his first season in the Brown and Gold, McChesney has a record of 20-7 with six pins and three major decisions.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday, February 6 when they host a non-conference match against crosstown rival John Carroll University in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center at 7 p.m.

BW hosts the 39th John Summa Invitational and Seniors' Day on Saturday, February 7 inside the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse at 10 a.m.
