HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team won its sixth straight match as it won a pair of non-conference matches to close out a successful spring break trip.
BW (8-1), who won all five of its matches in the Palmetto State, opened the day by rallying to defeat Messiah (Pa.) University by a final score of 4-3 on the Hilton Head High School Tennis Courts. The Yellow Jackets closed out the day by knocking off Catholic (D.C.) University by a final score of 6-1 at the Hilton Head Beach and Tennis Resort.
Against Messiah
- Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC Will Horvath (Oregon/Clay) and senior Academic All-OAC Henry Harders (Ottawa Hills) fell at first doubles by a score of 6-2
- Sophomore All-OAC Vinny Cannata (Aurora) and sophomore Tyler Fenton (Williamstown, W.Va.) won at second doubles by a score of 6-2
- Freshman Caleb Goff (Bowling Green) and freshman Sevie Kretchmar (Vermillion) fell at third doubles by a score of 6-3
- Horvath won at first singles by scores of 6-3 and 6-0
- Cannata fell at second singles by scores of 6-4 and 6-0
- Fenton fell at third singles by scores of 6-7 (6-10), 6-1 and 0-1 (7-10)
- Harders fell at fourth singles by scores of 0-6, 6-0 and 0-1 (6-10)
- Kretchmar won at fifth singles by scores of 6-0 and 6-4
- Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC Jacob Weingart (Tiffin/Columbian) won at sixth singles by scores 7-5 and 6-0
Against Catholic
- Horvath and Harders won at first doubles by a score of 6-4
- Cannata and Fenton won at second doubles by a score of 6-2
- Weingart and Krecthmar fell at third doubles by a score of 6-3
- Horvath won at first singles by scores of 6-2 and 6-1
- Cannata won at second singles by scores of 6-2 and 6-4
- Fenton won at third singles by identical scores of 6-3
- Harders won at fourth singles by scores of 6-3 and 7-6 (7-4)
- Kretchmar won at fifth singles by scores of 6-2 and 6-1
- Weingart fell at sixth singles by scores 7-5 and 1-0 before retiring
BW is back in action on Thursday, March 19 when they travel to Mount Vernon for a non-conference match against NAIA Mount Vernon Nazerene University on the Ramser Tennis Courts at 4 p.m.
