Men’s Lacrosse Reigns Victorious Over Ohio Northern in Competitive Battle

BEREA, Ohio - The Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team, led by Head Coach Tony Tatro, won tonight's Ohio Athletic Conference matchup against the Ohio Northern University Polar Bears by a score of 15-14 on Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium.

BW (12-3, 7-0 OAC) was led by junior Academic All-OAC attack/midfield Noah Dodgion (Hilliard/Davidson) who had a career night with seven goals against the rival Polar Bears. Senior OAC Offensive Player of the Year Bennet Trout (Pickerington/North) led the team in assists with four and had five points. Sophomore goalkeeper Aidan Malone (Canal Winchester) had 11 saves to lead the team. Junior OAC Defensive Player of the Week Evan Vetter (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) went 25 for 31 on faceoffs (.806) and had 15 ground balls.

Ohio Northern (9-6, 5-1 OAC) was led by senior midfielder Nathan Flynn who scored a hat trick. Junior midfielder Jack Chaney led the team with five assists and six points.

1st Period (BW 3-2) 
  • Ohio Northern freshman midfielder Landon Laney scored the first goal with an assist from Cooper Mulligan.
  • Senior All-OAC attack/midfield Ian Shealy (Westerville/Central) tied the game with a man-up goal.
  • The Yellow Jackets outshot the Polar Bears 13 to 7.
  • Vetter helped BW win five faceoffs to ONU's one.

2nd Period (BW 5-3) 
  • Dodgion scored both BW goals with less than three minutes remaining in the half to extend the lead to two goals.
  • Both teams recorded nine shots in the period.
  • The goalies each made four saves to keep the game close.
  • Vetter won three out of four faceoffs in the period.

3rd Period (ONU 10-8) 
  • ONU senior midfielder Mark Mintzlaff scored the first goal, and junior All-OAC attack/midfield Paxton Allison (Redondo Beach, Calif./St. John Bosco) responded with a goal less than a minute later.
  • The Polar Bears responded to every BW goal of the period with two of their own and took the lead with 3:50 remaining off of a goal from ONU sophomore midfielder Eli Ferguson.
  • After an illegal body check from Allison, ONU senior midfielder J.D. Hale scored a man-up goal to give the Polar Bears a two-goal lead.
  • ONU freshman midfielder Aidan Sexton scored the fourth consecutive goal for the Polar Bears, giving ONU its biggest lead of the night at three goals.
  • Dodgion completed his hat trick with 1:00 remaining to cut the Jackets' deficit to two.

4th Period (BW 15-14) 
  • Dodgion scored the first goal of the period off of a reverse spin shot.
  • Dodgion got hot, scoring an unassisted goal 10 seconds later.
  • Dodgion started an avalanche, scoring a third unassisted goal less than a minute after he scored the first to flip the script and give the Jackets an 11-10 lead.
  • Senior All-OAC attack/midfield Reichen Geiselhart (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) joined the party, scoring a goal to give BW a two-goal lead.
  • Trout never misses a party. He scored with 8:12 remaining to give BW a three-goal lead with 8:12 remaining.
  • The Polar Bears silenced the rowdy Finnie Stadium crowd by eliminating the lead in less than two minutes.
  • Undeterred, Dodgion scored his fourth of the period to make the score 14-13.
  • ONU tied the game and Allison responded less than a minute later to make the score 15-14 with 2:57 remaining.
  • BW held off a last-second shot attempt by ONU's Chaney to earn the win.

  • Men's lacrosse heads to Capital University to face the Comets on Saturday, April 18 at 1:00 p.m. inside Bernlohr Stadium for their final OAC game of the regular season.
