BEREA, Ohio - The Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team, led by Head Coach Tony Tatro, won tonight's Ohio Athletic Conference semifinal game against the Mount Union Purple Raiders by a score of 23-6 on Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium. The Yellow Jackets advance to the OAC Championship game and will host.
BW (14-4, 8-0 OAC) was led by junior Academic All-OAC attack/midfield Carson Grizovic (Walton, Ky./Walton-Verona) scoring two goals and two assists. Senior All-OAC attack/midfield Bennet Trout (Pickerington/North) led the team in assists with four and had five points. Junior Academic All-OAC goalkeeper AJ Schultz (Mukwonago, Wis.) had 10 saves to lead the team. Junior All-OAC faceoff specialist Evan Vetter (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) went 19 for 22 on faceoffs (.863) and had 16 ground balls.
Mount Union (9-8, 4-4 OAC) was led by Spencer Logsdon who had two points on two assists. Gary Possler also had five ground balls to lead the team.
1st Period (BW 4-1)
- Scoring was opened by the Yellow Jackets with a goal from junior CSC Academic All-District attack/midfield Noah Dodgion (Hilliard/Davidson).
- Junior All-OAC attack/midfield Paxton Allison (Redondo Beach, Calif./St. John Bosco) completed the scoop and score off a turnover caused by Trout to make the game 2-0 Jackets.
- Mount Union's Alec Feigel cut the deficit to one before the Yellow Jackets put in two more to take a three-goal lead.
2nd Period (BW 8-3)
- The second period was opened by a goal from senior attack/midfield Nate Hoover (Worthington) with an assist coming from senior Academic All-OAC attack/midfield Keyan Moser (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township).
- Grizovic capped scoring for the Yellow Jackets this period with a spectacular goal.
- Mount Union then answered with two goals, one coming at the last second of the period
3rd Period (BW 16-5)
- It took three goals from the Yellow Jackets to get one answered by the Purple Raiders
- Allison capitalized on the man up opportunity with an assist from Trout
- Senior All-OAC attack/midfield Ian Shealy (Westerville/Central) completed his hat trick with back-to-back goals, 30 seconds apart. These were assisted by Trout and Grizovic, respectively,
4th Period (BW 23-6)
- Mount Union scored their final goal of the game from Braylon Li at the 13:51 mark of the period, yet it was answered by junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference midfielder Caleb Fox (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) 30 seconds later.
- Moser scored his third goal of the game to complete his hat trick.
- Dodgion scored a magnificent behind-the-back goal with an assist from Trout to finish his hat trick.
- The Yellow Jackets put four more past Mount Union to finish scoring at 23 goals.
