NEW ORLEANS, La. – Three Baldwin Wallace University women's outdoor track and field student-athletes have been named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Great Lakes Region Team.
To qualify, a student-athlete must be in the top 5 of each event in each region earn or be a member of a top 3 ranked relay team. Data is compiled bases on regional TFRI at the conclusion of the regular season.
Senior All-American distance runner
Hope Murphy (Mogadore), sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference high jumper
Rylee Gorrell (Grove City, Pa./Grove City Area) and freshman All-OAC hurdler
Jameire Honzu (Warren/Harding) earned All-Great Lakes Region accolade.
Murphy, who garners her ninth career accolade, earned region honors in both the 800 and 1,500-meter runs for the fourth straight season. She was an all-region honoree in the 800-run in 2021. This season,
Murphy closed out her illustrious career by claiming her third outdoor All-American honor and her fifth combined between indoor and outdoor. She set the school-record in the 800-run with a time of 2:07.77. For her career,
Murphy was an eight-time outdoor All-Ohio Athletic Conference runner, seven-time OAC Outdoor Champion, five-time All-OAC relay member and three-time OAC Outdoor Distance Runner of the Year Award winner. Off the track, she was a three-time Academic All-OAC honoree, a two-time College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-American, two-time USTFCCA All-Academic Athlete honoree, 2024 BW Clyde Lamb and Outstanding Senior Athlete Awards winner, Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma and Dayton C. Miller honoraries.
Gorrell, who earns her first career honor, after placing second in the high jump at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships. She set a career-best mark of five feet and 4.25 inches during her sophomore campaign.
Gorrell also earned All-Great Lakes selection in the indoor high jump and was the OAC Indoor runner-up in the high jump. Off the track, she is an Academic All-OAC performer, USTFCCA All-Academic Athlete honoree and a Dean's List student.
Honzu, who garners her first career accolade, after claiming her first Ohio Athletic Conference outdoor title in the 100-meter hurdle. She ran a season-best time of 14.31.
Honzu also earned All-Great Lakes selection in the indoor 60-meter hurdles and was the OAC Indoor Champion in the 60-meter hurdles. She set the Harrison Dillard Indoor Track facility record with a time of 8.20.
