BEREA, Ohio - Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer head coach Reid Ayers picked up his 400th career win in a 3-1 triumph over Heidelberg University on Wednesday, October 28, cementing himself among a select group of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) head coaches to reach the milestone.
Ayers is currently in his 25th season as the head men's coach at BW. His win total makes him the most successful coach in the program's 55-year history. Ayers recorded his 300th career win while leading both the men's and women's teams, a role he held from 2002-2017 before transitioning permanently to the men's side. He currently holds the record for most wins for both the men's and women's programs at BW.
Ayers is in his 35th year of coaching at the collegiate level. Before coming to BW, he served as the assistant men's and women's soccer coach at Ashland University and began his career at Hiram College where he began as an assistant before serving as head coach from 1997-2000.
Ayers was hired by BW in 2002, succeeding Thom Clark. His accomplishments have earned him an extensive place in Yellow Jacket Athletics history. At BW, he led the men's team to the NCAA Tournament in 2011. His teams have also made 19 appearances in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) tournament including 10 with the men and nine with the women. He also took teams to the NCAA national tournament at both Ashland and Hiram.
Ayers serves as the Regional Chair on the United Soccer Coaches All-American Committee and on the Executive Board of the OCSA. He is also a member of the U.S. Soccer Coaching Education Instructional Staff and is a national and regional staff coach in the USYS Olympic Development Program (ODP). He earned the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association's Honor Award in 2019.
Throughout his coaching career, Ayers has coached eight Ohio Athletic Conference Players of the Year at their respective positions and three Yellow Jacket Hall of Famers.
BW returns to the pitch on Saturday night, October 31, when the Yellow Jackets travel to Marietta College for their final regular-season contest. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m
