Esteves, Gundrum Highlight All-MCVL Honors for Men’s Volleyball

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Four members of the Baldwin Wallace men's volleyball program have been named to the All-Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League team for the 2026 season. Junior right side hitter Jacob Esteves (Wickliffe/St. Edward), freshman setter Ethan Gundrum (Cincinnati/McNicholas), freshman outside hitter Tyler Schunk (Eden, N.Y.), and senior middle hitter Colby Whiteside (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) combined for seven total all-conference awards.

Esteves has been named the MCVL Offensive Player of the Year and earned a spot on the All-MCVL First Team. He currently has 326 kills this season and averages 3.93 kills per set to lead the MCVL in both offensive categories. This is the first time he has been selected for the all-conference team in his career. The junior also has 20 service aces and led the team with 366.0 points this season. 2026 was highlighted by Esteves' career-high 29 kills in the victory over No. 7 UC Santa Cruz (Calif.) on Saturday, January 31. This performance earned him recognition as the MCVL Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career. He was also named Men's Yellow Jacket of the Week the same week. Esteves currently has 462 career kills and stands fifth all-time in program history.

Gundrum earned both the MCVL Rookie of the Year and the MCVL Setter of the Year awards. He has also been named to the All-MCVL First Team in his rookie season. These accolades came on the heels of a season where he had the most assists in program history with 1,133 in the regular season. He is now second all-time at BW on the career assists leaderboard with 3,129 being his next benchmark. Gundrum earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III Player of the Week accolade on February 3 after making a career-high 66 assists in the five-set win over No. 7 UC Santa Cruz. The following week, he totaled eight digs and 12 total blocks through two matches to earn his first MCVL Defensive Player of the Week award. His 47.0 blocks this season ranks third on the team.

Whiteside has been selected to the All-MCVL Second Team for the second consecutive season. 2026 was the best offensive season for the senior middle hitter of his entire career. He totaled 141 kills and 1.62 kills per set with a .332 hitting percentage to have career-bests in every category. Defensively, he was excellent at the net with 67.0 total blocks this season, averaging 0.77 blocks per set to lead his team. He has a strong hold on the program record for most career blocks with 256.0 to date. Whiteside was recognized by the MCVL on March 10 as the Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career. That week, he had a season-best eight total blocks against No. 14 Wentworth while averaging 1.6 blocks per set in that match.

Schunk was named All-MCVL Honorable Mention in his debut season. He had 257 kills to rank second on the team and eighth in the MCVL. The first-year outside hitter led the team with 35 service aces, which also put him at second in the MCVL. Schunk got it done on both ends by leading the team in digs with 150 and by being fourth on the team in blocks with 37.0. He showcased his talents on day one when he earned a career-high 22 kills and four service aces in a four-set victory over Grove City (Pa.) on January 17. His career-best hitting percentage came against Adrian (Mich.) in the regular season finale when he hit for .476 on 11 kills.
