Five Softball Student-Athletes Named to 2026 CSC Academic All-District Team

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Five Baldwin Wallace University softball student-athletes have been named to the 2026 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team.
 
Senior right handed pitcher Katie Barnhart (North Ridgeville), senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference second baseman Sabrina Burke (London), senior right fielder Sam Smearman (Middleburg Heights/Berea-Midpark), junior third baseman Mia Maddamma (North Royalton) and junior catcher Mia Strizak (Middleburg Heights/Berea-Midpark) all earn Academic All-District accolade.  The five now advance to the CSC Academic All-America® Team ballot, which will be announced on June 16.
 
Barnhart, who carried a 3.867 grade point average in pre-allied health and pre-physical therapy, earns her first career honor.   This season, she appeared in 23 games, including 17 starts in the circle.  Barnhart posted a record of 8-9 with one save.  She struck out 47 batters in a team-high 96.1 innings pitched.  Barnhart finished the season with an earned run average of 4.58.  She batted .231 (3-of-13) with one double, one triple, two runs scored, two runs batted-in, two walks and one stolen base.  For her career, Barnhart appeared in 39 games with 27 starts in the circle.  She posted a record of 17-10 with one save.  Barnhart tallied 76 strikeouts in 163.1 innings pitched.  She had a career ERA of 3.94.  Barnhart batted .292 (7-of-24) with one double, one triple, six runs scored and four RBIs.  She had three walks and one stolen base.   Off the field, Barnhart is a Dean's List student and Jacket Scholar.
 
Burke, who carried a 3.832 grade point average in business management and analytics, garners her first career accolade.  This season, she appeared and started in all 33 games. Burke had a career-season as she posted career-bests in batting average with a .346 average (37-of-107), runs scored 26, walks with 12, RBIs with 14, stolen bases with 10, triples with five, doubles with five and homeruns with one.  She led the team in triples, ranked third in hitting and hits and was tied for third in runs scored.  In the field, Burke recorded career-highs with 88 putouts and 54 assists.   She was named the Yellow Jacket Female Athlete of the Week on March 20.   For her career, Burke appeared in 122 games with 79 starts.  She batted .286 (55-of-192) with three doubles, five triples, one homerun, 68 runs scored, 16 RBIs, 18 walks and 30 stolen bases.  In the field, Burke tallied 162 putouts and 104 assists.  Off the diamond, she is a two-time Academic All-OAC honoree, Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society.
 
Smearman, who carried a 3.998 grade point average in biology, earns her first career honor.  This season, she appeared and started in 30 games.  Smearman batted .241 (19-of-79) with nine runs scored, eight runs batted-in, eight walks, two homeruns, one double and one triple.  She posted 38 putouts and three assists.  For her career, Smearman hit .275 (61-of-222) with 35 RBIs, 25 runs scored, 21 walks, six doubles, four homeruns and one triple.  In the field, she tallied 50 putouts and 29 assists.  Off the field, Smearman two-time Academic All-OAC honoree, Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma and Dayton C. Miller Honor Societies.
 
Maddamma, who carries a 3.976 grade point average in biology, garners her first career accolade.  This season, she appeared and started in all 33 games. Maddamma batted .235 (20-of-89).  She led the team with a career-high 16 hit-by-pitch and tied for second on team with career-best seven doubles.  Maddamma recorded 19 runs scored, 11 runs batted-in, nine walks and one stolen base.  She posted 60 assists and 25 putouts.  For her career, Maddamma has appeared 106 games with 104 starts.  She is hitting .278 (74-of-266) with 34 RBIs, 29 walks, 26 hit-by-pitches, 13 doubles and six stolen bases.  Maddamma is a two-time NCAA Division III Regional All-Tournament Team selection and a 2025 All-Ohio Athletic Conference second team honoree, In the field, she has posted 131 assists and 80 putouts.  Off the field, Maddamma is an Academic All-OAC honoree, Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society.
 
Strizak, who carries a perfect 4.000 grade point average in accounting and finance, earns her first career honor.   This season, she appeared and started in 28 games.  Strizak batted a career-best .297 (22-of-74).  She recorded career-highs with 14 runs batted-in, 12 runs scored, eight walks, six doubles and one stolen base. Strizak posted career-bests of 96 putouts and 15 assists.  For her career, Strizak has appeared in 48 games with 32 starts.  She is hitting .271 (26-of-96) with six 16 RBIs, 14 runs scored, 10 walks, six doubles and one stolen base.  In the field, Strizak has tallied 104 putouts and 20 assists.  Off the field, she is an Academic All-OAC honoree, Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma and Dayton C. Miller Honor Societies.

BW finished the 2026 season with an overall record of 20-13 and a 10-6 mark in the OAC.  The Yellow Jackets advanced to the OAC Tournament quarterfinals.
