Softball’s Curran Named April Yellow Jacket Female Athlete of the Month

BEREA, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University senior softball first baseman/designated hitter Avery Curran (Kitchener, Ontario, CANADA/Resurrection Catholic) has been named the April Yellow Jacket Female Athlete of the Month.

To be considered for the monthly honor, a female student-athlete must have been nominated for at least one Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) weekly award in her respective sport. From the pool of nominees, members of the Athletic Communications staff, together with student assistants from the department's social media team, select the monthly winner.

In the month of April, Curran appeared and started in 16 games.  She batted .529 (27-of-51) with two doubles, six homeruns, 19 runs batted-in (RBIs), seven walks and one stolen base.  In the field, Curran recorded 69 putouts, including a career-high 17 at Geneva (Pa.) College on April 27, and three hits. 

She safely hit in all 16 games and had eight multi-hit games.  Curran had two games with two home runs and two series with three homers, including against No. 18 University of Mount Union on April 8 and Marietta College on April 18.

This season, she has appeared in 29 games with 26 starts.  Curran is hitting a career-best and Ohio Athletic Conference third best .475 (38-of-80).  She is second on the team and tied for second in the conference with a career-high nine homeruns. Curran is tied for seventh in the league and tied for second on the team with a career-best 32 RBIs.  She has also tallied career-highs in putouts with 93, runs scored with 29, walks with 14, assists with five and doubles with five.

Curran was named the Yellow Jacket Female Athlete of the Week on March 25 and April 14.  She was the OAC Hitter of the Week on April 13.

For her career, Curran has appeared in 35 games with 28 starts.  She is hitting .444 (40-of-90) with nine homeruns, five doubles, 29 runs scored, 33 RBIs and 15 walks.  Curran has recorded 107 putouts and six assists.

BW is back in action as it travels to Alliance for an OAC Tournament quarterfinals game hosted by the University of Mount Union against Capital University on the 23rd Street Field at 1:30 p.m.
