No. 19 Softball Selected for Second Straight NCAA Division III Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the second straight season and for the third time in school history, the No. 19 nationally ranked and Ohio Athletic Conference Regular Season Champion Baldwin Wallace University softball team has been selected to the NCAA Division III National Tournament.

BW (31-4), who enters the tournament as an at-large selection, will travel to Angola, Indiana for the double elimination tournament hosted by No. 4 nationally ranked Trine University (36-5) on the SportOne/Parkview Softball Field.  The Yellow Jackets will open the tournament against the University of Wisconsin at eau Claire (27-14), who earned an at-large bid out of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, on Thursday, May 15.  Trine will host the University of Pittsburg at Greensburg, the winners of the Allegheny Mountain Athletic Conference, in game two on Thursday.

The two winners will face off on Friday, May 16 with the losers of the first games to face off in an elimination.  The winner of game four will face the loser of game three in an elimination game 30 minutes following the conclusion of game four.  The regional championship series will be played on Saturday, May 17.

Sophomore All-OAC Tournament team left fielder Sam Peterkoski (Berea/Berea-Midpark) lead the team and the league and is third in country with a .537 batting average (66-of-123).  Peterksoski's 66 hits leads the conference and is tied for ninth in the country .  She leads the team and is fifth in the OAC with 16 stolen bases.   Peterkoski is tied for the team lead in triples with two and is tied for third in homeruns with one, which came in her first at bat in the Brown and the Gold and was an inside the park homer.  She also has tallied 22 runs batted-in, four doubles and 10 walks.

Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC shortstop Lucia Wolford (McDonald), who was named to her second straight OAC All-Tournament Team, is second on the team with a career-best .405 batting average (47-of-116).  Wolford leads the team and is tied for fifth in the league with a career-high 13 doubles.  She is tied for the squad lead in triples with two, second in stolen bases with a career-best 12 stolen bases and tied for third in homeruns with one.  Wolford is third on the team with a career-high 31 RBIs.   She has added a career-best tying eight walks.

Junior All-OAC right hander Marisa Hall (Paris/East Canton) is the ace of the team as she leads the conference with a career-high 18 wins with just three loses.  Hall leads the league with a 127.0 innings pitched.  She is second on the OAC with a career-best 2.26 earned run average (ERA).  Hall is tied for third in the league with allowing just 21 walks. She has struck out 79 batters, which is good for fifth in the league.

BW is joined by fellow in the national tournament by OAC member in OAC Tournament Champion University of Mount Union.
