McCoy Bestowed January’s Yellow Jacket Women’s Athlete of the Month Recognition

BEREA, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball junior guard Laura McCoy (Newton Falls / Garrettsville Garfield) has been named the Yellow Jacket Women's Athlete of the Month for January 2026.

To be considered for the monthly honor, a male or female student-athlete must have been nominated for at least one Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) weekly award in his or her respective sport. From the pool of nominees, members of the Athletic Communications staff, together with student assistants from the department's social media team, select the monthly winner.

McCoy started all eight games at guard for the Yellow Jackets as they went undefeated for the first month of 2026. She averaged 10.4 points per game and 4.4 assists per game last month. Her standout performance was against Wilmington on Jan. 17 when she earned career highs with 19 points and seven rebounds. McCoy went 7-9 from the field and 5-6 from beyond the arc. On Jan. 20, she was named the BW Women's Yellow Jacket of the Week. The next day, she scored 17 points and tied her career high with seven rebounds against Ohio Northern in a road victory.

The Yellow Jackets have now won 30 straight regular season Ohio Athletic Conference games, dating back to Feb. 17, 2024, when McCoy was a freshman. Now an everyday starter, she averages 9.7 points per game and 4.4 rebounds per game with a 43.5% field goal percentage and 95.0% free throw accuracy in 2025-26. She is second on the team in scoring with 203 points and fourth on the team with 92 rebounds. BW has not lost since Nov. 25, 2025, and has four regular season games remaining until the OAC tournament begins.
